Sometimes, at the end of a hard day, you go to sleep with worried, angry, or fearful thoughts. This is very harmful to your personal health and will ultimately affect your life and your business. Here’s why:
It is during the hours you sleep when you are able to rejuvenate. This rest period is designed to allow your body to rebuild cells and tissues, restore chemical and hormonal balance, and otherwise reset the organs and systems of your body. Research shows that during deep sleep, the brain actually clears out metabolic waste products, such as beta-amyloid proteins, through the glymphatic system (Nedergaard & Goldman, Science, 2020). This natural “cleaning cycle” helps protect against cognitive decline and supports sharper thinking the next day.
Not only is your body able to rejuvenate during this rest period, but also your mind and soul. Studies have found that people who practice gratitude or forgiveness before bedtime not only fall asleep faster but also report better sleep quality overall (Wood et al., Journal of Psychosomatic Research, 2009). The hours your body is under the control of your subconscious mind allow for more open communication between your inner self and the divine spiritual energy (God). This is one reason why going to sleep in a peaceful, loving state can be so powerful.
When you go to sleep after a meditation session or a prayer of thankfulness, you are actually providing an open channel between your soul and the divine spiritual energy. In fact, brain imaging studies show that meditation and prayer can activate regions of the brain associated with emotional regulation and feelings of connection (Newberg, Journal of Physiology – Paris, 2018). In other words, you’re allowing the free energy flow within you. Sleep then becomes much like a suspension bridge between soul and spirit.
Have you ever been seeking the answer to a challenging question, only to find that it comes to you in your sleep? Research into “sleep-dependent memory consolidation” shows that the brain reorganizes and integrates information during sleep, often leading to creative problem-solving or insight the next day (Diekelmann & Born, Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 2010). When you enter the rest period in a positive, energetic state, you’re not just preparing your body for healing — you’re also opening yourself to these higher levels of awareness.
So, tonight and every night, when you are going to sleep, give thanks for your perfect health, happiness, and success. Follow the forgiveness steps (forgive yourself, forgive the other person, give the other person permission to forgive you, see the good in the situation, and be thankful!) and be thankful for your lessons of the day. It will not only heal your soul but also create a healthier body, a clearer mind, and a more open communication channel with the divine spirit.
