Form a Team and Take Action!

When life feels overwhelming or uncertain, it’s easy to become discouraged about our ability to change our circumstances. The truth is, personal empowerment may be much more attainable than you think. The principles of the Morter HealthSystem are designed to help you take positive control of your life, guiding you toward the health, happiness, and success you seek and deserve. Small, consistent actions can begin shifting your direction immediately.

Here are five simple steps you can begin over the coming weeks to build positive momentum in your life. Consider partnering with a “buddy” to take these steps alongside you, checking in with each other each day.

This kind of shared accountability can help you stay focused and encouraged, even when moods or circumstances fluctuate. When two people commit to supporting one another, success becomes far more likely.

Step #1: Start adding more fruits and vegetables to every meal.

Instead of focusing on what you should remove from your diet, try the other side of the equation: add nourishing foods. Include fruits and/or vegetables with every meal you eat. As your body begins receiving more of what it needs, you may naturally find that less healthy foods fall away on their own. If something else gets pushed aside because you’re too full, that’s perfectly fine.

Step #2: Move your body for at least 30 minutes every day.

Whether it’s walking, riding a bike, roller skating, stretching, or even power-dancing to your favorite music while you vacuum the house, commit to at least 30 minutes of movement each day. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s consistency. Getting your body moving and your heart rate up just a little each day strengthens both body and mind.

Step #3: Reduce the negative influences in your day.

Take a moment to notice what you are allowing into your mental and emotional space. It might mean limiting how much news you watch, stepping away from office gossip, or being more selective about what you read or watch on television. The information and energy you absorb throughout the day influence how you feel and think. Begin consciously reducing the negative.

Step #4: Develop a clear vision of how you choose your life to be.

One of the easiest ways to get your creative energy flowing is to create a vision board. Gather images, quotes, colors, or pictures from magazines that represent the things you want to invite into your life—anything that inspires you or makes you smile. Place them on a bulletin board where you will see them every day. Continue adding to it as your vision becomes clearer. Allow yourself to dream without limitation and remain open to all possibilities.

Step #5: Find something to be thankful for every morning, noon, and night.

Gratitude is one of the simplest ways to shift your perspective. Each morning when you wake up, identify at least one thing you are thankful for that day. Repeat this practice again at noon and once more before going to sleep. Speak your gratitude out loud, with sincerity and feeling behind it: “I am so very thankful for…”

This small daily practice can profoundly influence how you experience your life.
