You are far more than a physical body. For thousands of years, healers and spiritual traditions have described a subtle energy field surrounding and permeating the human body. While these ideas were once considered purely philosophical, a number of pioneering researchers spent their careers exploring whether science could detect and measure aspects of this invisible world.
The human body is unquestionably electrical in nature. Every heartbeat, every thought, every nerve impulse, and every muscle contraction depends upon electrical activity. Life itself is an energetic process.
Yale researcher Harold Saxton Burr proposed that living organisms possess organizing energy fields that help guide growth, development, and function. He referred to these as “Life Fields” and believed they serve as energetic blueprints for the physical body.
Orthopedic surgeon Robert O. Becker expanded our understanding of the body’s electrical nature through his research on healing and regeneration. His work demonstrated that electrical currents play a critical role in the body’s repair processes and suggested that life is regulated by far more than chemistry alone.
Later, UCLA researcher Valerie Hunt measured frequencies associated with the human body that extended beyond those typically linked to muscles and nerves. Her findings suggested that human beings function as complex energetic systems and lent scientific curiosity to the ancient concept of the aura.
Adding another intriguing dimension, biophysicist Fritz-Albert Popp discovered that living cells emit ultra-weak particles of light known as biophotons. In other words, the body literally emits light as part of its normal functioning.
These discoveries align closely with the teachings of Dr. M. T. Morter, who often emphasized that the body is governed by intelligence expressed through energy. He taught that health is not merely the absence of symptoms, but the result of the unobstructed flow of energy and information throughout the body. When communication within the body’s systems is clear and coordinated, health naturally follows.
From this perspective, health becomes more than fixing parts. It becomes a matter of supporting the body’s innate intelligence and maintaining harmony within its energetic systems. Physical stress, emotional strain, nutritional deficiencies, lack of movement, poor sleep, and negative thought patterns can all contribute to interference within those systems. The good news is that many of these influences are within our control. The Six Essentials—what you eat and drink, how you exercise and rest, what and how you breathe, and what you think—have a profound impact on the quality of your energy and your body’s ability to function optimally.
You are energy. You consume energy, radiate energy, and live within an interconnected sea of energy. The work of Burr, Becker, Hunt, Popp, and Dr. Morter invites us to view ourselves as more than physical beings. It encourages us to recognize that health may begin long before symptoms appear—in the flow of energy and information that gives life to every cell.
There is still much to learn about the human energy field. Yet one thing is clear: there is far more to you than meets the eye.
