Taking a stroll outside, through the woods, or across the field has many natural benefits. If done at a brisk pace, you get a little needed exercise. When done in the name of peace-of-mind, you get some mental therapy. If the air is clean and pure, you oxygenate your lungs and body. So, walk in a place where the air is clean and pure, not down a city street filled with bumper-to-bumper cars emitting noxious fumes. Just walk in the great outdoors and enjoy nature’s bounty!
If you live in the city, you may have a park you can walk in, or you may even have to drive out of town. The benefits are worth it, and so we highly recommend you do this on a regular basis. If you live in the suburbs or a smaller town, then your very own neighborhood may serve the purpose. However or wherever you decide to take your stroll, relax and enjoy it.
We recommend you walk in a manner that adds to your body balance. In other words, when your right foot is forward, your left arm should be forward; when your left foot is forward, your right arm should be forward. This contralateral movement coordinates and balances your body while you walk.
In addition, don’t wear a headset to pipe in rock and roll, rap, the weather report, or your favorite podcast. Instead, play your thoughts and listen carefully to them. Yes, think. This is a great time to get in touch with your soul. You can use this time to give thanks and show your gratitude to the almighty Creator, to make plans for reaching your next goal, or for some other positive mental activity. Positive is the operative word here. If you can’t come up with something positive to think about, just walk along thinking, “Thank you for my perfect health. Thank you for my perfect happiness. Thank you for my perfect success.” Just think this over and over. You will begin to feel fantastic. As you walk and think positive thoughts, you strengthen your mind and body and the relationship between them.
